Completing each run in the game’s Adventure mode unlocks a new kind of whip for you to use. Each new whip grants a single buff when equipped — one grants an extremely useful double jump, and another lets you drop coins you’ve collected in water to restore your health. There are loads of them, and once unlocked, can be used to augment any future runs you undertake. You can also spend coins collected in-level Phantom Abyss Speedrun on temporary upgrades that will disappear after the run.

There's also a new daily mode, delivering a steady stream of challenges with specific equipment and conditions to best alongside everyone else.

For fans of the Indiana Jones movies, Phantom Abyss will feel like something out of a dream. As players slyly avoid traps and use their whip to grapple out of danger, they’ll truly channel the fedora wearing adventure hero.

The 1.0 launch will deliver a completely overhauled Adventure Mode, giving you a choice of temples to explore, each with a specific whip, relic, and series of challenges to overcome. We will also be introducing the new and improved core experience with Abyss Mode, previously called Classic Mode, which challenges players to enter a temple and progress through all four areas within and collect the relic at the end. Only one person will ever complete each temple, so time (and skill) are of the essence.

Now runs have this thing where at the end of a level it adds a random challenge to your run. You have pelo control over witch modifier you get and some are way worse than others. sometimes runs feel very easy because you get lucky and others just feel like ♥♥♥♥ because you got bad luck.  

It may take some getting used to, but it can be an excellent strategy for quickly clearing rooms and obstacles. Should you choose to run the Ice Whip with its curse enabled, this blessing moves from one of the worst to one of the most essential.

For the average joe who wants something to play after work, I can’t see it holding much long-term interest. It’ll certainly entertain you for a few nights, and you might even tell some friends about it, such is the novelty of the experience. But it all felt a bit surface-deep for me.
